Travel guide to Nha Trang

Nha Trang is Vietnam’s most famous seaside resort-town. It’s more lively and urban in character than other beach destinations like Mui Ne and Phu Quoc. It’s also the scuba diving center of Vietnam.

Vietnam’s most popular beach destination Nha Trang, the capital of Khanh Hoa province, sits in the south of Vietnam around 450km north of Ho Chi Minh City. The trip brings the weary traveller to the best city beach Vietnam has to offer. The town sits in a spectacular setting, surrounded by paddy fields which eventually yield to a semi circle of mountains that loom over this bustling coastal centre.

Getting to NhaTrang

  • By Bus: Depending on traffic, travel by bus from Saigon can take around 11 hours. The bus from Mui Ne should theoretically take only five hours.

  • By Train: Nha Trang’s train station is located in the northwestern part of the city, well off the tourist strip. The train from Saigon takes roughly 10 hours to reach Nha Trang.

  • By Air: Flights to and from Nha Trang now use Cam Ranh Airport (NHA) which was once an old U.S. airbase during the Vietnam War. The airport is around 18 miles south of Nha Trang; only domestic flights are available.

Sights and Activities

The beach is the main draw here. But the beaches are littered and the water can also be polluted, so if you are going to Nha Trang specifically for the beach, and have been to other Asian destinations such as Thailand and the Philippines you are likely to be very disappointed. You will see many female vendors walking along the beach selling fruit and hot, steamed seafood.

  • Thap Ba Hot Springs: This spa destination is located on the north side of NhaTrang. Indulge yourself by relaxing in a mud Bath Tub filled with natural and beneficial ingredients for your skin and soak your skin in mineral water to finish it off. You can enjoy all these without worrying about your wallet because their services and amenities are very affordable.

  • Island Hopping: This city has many surrounding islands nearby. The Vinpearl is an Island where tickets are sold. These tickets are needed in order to get inside the island. You can get to this island by either of the options: using the world’s longest over-the-sea cable car where you will be able to get a nice view or you can travel by a speed boat. The island offers many activities including roller coaster rides, kid friendly rides, a nice beach that offers parasailing and jet skiing, laser water shoes, an aquarium, and much more.

  • Po Nagar Cham Towers: Located a couple of kilometres north of central Nha Trang, Po Nagar is a set of four ancient Cham Towers, built between the 7th and 12th centuries. They sit on top of a hill overlooking the harbour and are in excellent condition. The view of the harbour is well worth visiting even if you aren’t interested in the towers.

Eat and Drink

Don’t bother getting up if you’re at the beach – hawkers are never far from length to provide fresh pineapple and satay sticks. Not surprisingly judging by Nha Trang’s fishing fleet, the city is also an excellent location to sample fresh seafood and the local culinary scene is noteworthy for providing many stylish bars and restaurants enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Where to Stay

As expected for a large tourist town, Nha Trang has no shortage of staying options ranging from budget to 5-star. The southern part of the town around Biet Thu is where most hotels and resorts can be found, while those wishing for a more local experience have some options around the Cho Dam Market in the northern part of town

Weather

Warm and humid year round.

Anytime can be a good time to visit Nha Trang for its own reason. Let find out why!.
