The square blends many cultures in the last 400 years. Renowned for its constant hosting unique and interesting stalls, entertainment spots and restaurants, the square has been popular more and more. It is one of the landmarks that should not be missed out. The square is primarily visited on weekends when it turns on its festive mood and the Portuguese communities will show up with their traditional costumes for performances.


 


  • Cheng Ho’s Cultural Museum

Cheng Ho’s Cutural Museum is known as a restructured ancient building with Ming architecture, with the length of history of two to three hundred years. The famous Cheng Ho is the Ming Dynasty Admiral who has visited Malacca many times while taking routes to the Western Ocean from 1405-1433.

  • Muzium Budaya/Sultanate Palace

Melaka Sultanate Palace is below St. Haul’s Hill that you will see easily. It was built in 1985 using traditional construction techniques and materials .

The Malacca Sultanate Palace is actually a wooden replica of the structure of Sultan Mansur Shah’s 15th-century palace. It is one of its kinds in Malaysia as it offers a rare glimpse of the ancient Malay kingdom which once flourished in Malacca. Along the way up the hill, you will also pass by some museums. They are the Architecture Museum Malacca and the Stamp Museum Malacca in their unique architecture.


Since the palace is at the foot of St Paul’s Hill, do not miss the chance to visit the St Paul’s Church, which is at the top of the St Paul’s Hill.

It wasfirst built in 1521, by the Portuguese and then became a fortress in 1567.  After that,  the Dutch named it St Paul’s, before it was known as Nossa Senhora da Annunciada that means Our Lady of Annunciation. It has been used as a burial ground for the Dutch. You can still see the tombstones, along the walls of ruins of the church.


You will be easily distracted by the various museums along the way up to the church. Upon reaching the top of the St Paul’s Hill, you will be blown away by the breath-taking view of the city of Malacca and its coastline.

This fountain was built in 1901 by the British and is still standing as elegant as ever until now. With more than a hundred years old, this fountain is still functioning well and is probably the only functioning colonial water fountains in Malaysia.


7) Tanjung Bidara Beach


Tanjung Bidara Beach is located about 20km northwest of Malacca. While it’s facing the Straits of Malacca, it offers a wide piece of sea and since it’s located far from the road, it’s quite and calm.
